2010 Olympic Games Whistler

On July 2, 2003, Vancouver was selected as host City of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and Whistler became the Host Mountain Resort!

Together, Vancouver and Whistler welcomed the world February 12th thru March 21, 2010 for these two amazing events. The 6 and half years building to the games were filled with anticipation and numerous events including several world cups in preparation for the Winter Games themselves. As a community Whistler felt it was ready to host the world, but as with any big event you are never entirely sure it is going to work out. Well much to everyone's delight the 21st Olympic Winter Games and Paralympic Games were a spectacular success. While not without some challenges and sadness our wonderul mountain resort showed that it was ready to host the world sporting community and the world loved us. If you have not been to Whistler, you will love us too.

During the Olympic Winter Games Whistler Resort was host to three major competition venues. These included: Alpine Skiing events on Whistler Mountain; Bobsled, Luge and Skeleton events at the Whistler Sliding Centre on Blackcomb Mountain; and Nordic, Biathlon & Ski Jumping events in the Callaghan Valley at Whistler Olympic Park. During the Paralympic Winter Games, Whistler was host for all Alpine Skiing events as well as the Biathalon and Cross-Country Events.

It is a strange feeling with the games now behind us instead of in front of us. Whistler as a recreational vacation destination is now better than ever. The resort looks absolutley beautiful. Ammenities have been added such as the Peak 2 Peak gondola, the sliding centre which will be open for tourist rides in the coming months and Whistler Olympic Park a world class nordic skiing facility.

The Sundial Boutique Hotel, located in the heart of Whistler Village was is in the centre of the action during the Olympic Games. Located slopeside at the base of both Whistler and Blackcomb gondolas the Sundial was seen on many of the CTV's Whistler broadcasts as the CTV broadcast booth was located adjacent to our hotel.

We all had a wonderful time and are excited to share our experiences and our post Olympic resort with you. Please feel free to contact our friendly guest services team to reserve your stay in Whistler - 1-800-661-2321.
