When Ctv's 'whistler' Goes Primetime, The Whistler Community Will Be Tuning In

Whistler, B.C. - With CTV's recent announcement that their new 13-episode series "Whistler" will premiere in Canada on Sunday, June 25th, excited Whistler locals are gearing up to welcome this whole new form of worldwide attention.

Already world-renowned as one of North America's top golf, mountain biking and skiing resort destinations, Whistler will soon be the fictional setting and title featured in CTV's original entertainment series "Whistler".

The show's producers - CTV, Blueprint Entertainment and Boardwatch Productions - describe the show as a fast-paced drama that will "unveil the secrets that lie buried beneath the snow."
"We can't wait to see the show, and we welcome this incredible opportunity to raise the worldwide profile of Whistler in a whole new way," says Oliver Flaser, Director of Partnerships, Promotions & Events for Tourism Whistler. "Just look at what the movie The DaVinci Code is doing for travel destinations in Europe. Fictional and entertainment programs create huge interest among viewers to check out what the real destinations are all about."

Ideas are already circulating in the resort to create promotions with a "secrets of Whistler" theme, built around the community's real secrets such as the best secret snow stashes on a powder day, or the local's favourite single track mountain bike trail winding its way off into the forest.

"We haven't seen any of the episodes yet, so we're looking forward to seeing how the producers have interpreted life in our mountain town." Flaser says. "We're hoping the series sparks interest among travelers worldwide to come see what our destination has to offer."
With CTV available in 98 per cent of English speaking Canadian homes, and with the confirmed June 30th premiere of the series by The N Network in the US (a nighttime network for teens available in 49 million American households), the potential audience of the "Whistler" show is staggering.

So what better way to welcome the entertainment world to Whistler than with a party? Working with members, Tourism Whistler has invited some of the series stars and the show's band to Whistler to celebrate at a launch party at the Garibaldi Lift Company on June 22.
Key news and entertainment media from Canada and the United States are also invited, so they can discover first-hand the charm and majesty of this four-season mountain resort.
"My understanding is that the series is already confirmed for a second season, and we want the creative teams to know Whistler locals are here to help make 'Whistler' all it can be," Flaser says.

Details of promotional contests to win tickets to the June 22nd launch party will be announced soon.

Whistler is a year-round leisure and meeting destination located 120 kilometres (75 miles) north of Vancouver, B.C., Canada, and site for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
